The single biggest reason a dog coat or jacket gets returned isn't the design — it's the size. Because sizing isn't standardised across brands, the safest approach is always to measure your dog directly rather than guess from breed alone.
Write all three down in centimetres. Most of our product pages include a size chart with these exact measurements for that specific item — always check the chart on the product you're looking at rather than relying on a general 'S/M/L' guess, since fit varies between a fitted jacket, a loose fleece pullover, and a wrap-style coat.
If your dog's measurements fall between two sizes, sizing up is usually the safer choice — a slightly looser coat is more comfortable than one that restricts shoulder movement or rubs at the chest. Dogs with a deep chest or broad shoulders (many working and sporting breeds) sometimes need a size up from what their neck measurement alone would suggest.
Once the coat is on, you should be able to fit two fingers flat under the neck and chest straps. Your dog should be able to walk, sit and lie down normally without the coat pulling across the shoulders.
